Hi, everyone! Thank you all for the great comments and suggestions regarding my issues with sugar and chocolate. Once again you proved just how valuable this blogging thing is!
I got several different suggestions for how to conquer this latest demon. Marisa said to just work through it and take it day by day. Secretia thought some...uh..."manual stimulation" would take my mind off of things! She definitely gets the prize for most original suggestion.
Roder said that it's just a matter of refusing to eat sugar for a few days, and the cravings would go away. Actually, the term he used was to "suck it up and go a day or two without"...
The Falat Family of 5 suggested some serious workouts, thinking that after all that work I'd be less likely to eat something unhealthy.
And my girl Hallie suggested a little challenge where we swear off the sweet stuff together.
I wanted to share these suggestions because I got several comments from those of you who are dealing with the same issues right now. I hope you find some suggestions useful!
I'm going to take on Hallie's challenge and just try to stay away from the sweets and chocolate for a couple of weeks. There's exactly 2 weeks until Thanksgiving (can you believe that?), so I think that's a good goal.
2 weeks of NO chocolate, NO added sugar, NO artificial sweeteners. I have to start tomorrow because I had a bit of sugar in my coffee today, lol!
Anyone else want to join in? I don't know if this needs to be an "official" challenge, but we could check in on each other to make sure we're sticking to it. Let's call it Bust the Sugar Cravings Challenge!

I wish you luck with this challenge! I'm sure you can do it. Ever since I started my diet my main goal was to keep myself away from sugar. The very begining it was hell and since my system was accustomed to high level of sugar the first days were crucial. I took baby steps and now it feels natural. So it can be absolutely done. (:
My best suggestion is to just not have it in the house, Kids or not. Kids don't need it either. I do home child care...and don't keep sweets in the house, unless we have SF pudding or jello...or make something for a project. If you don't buy it, you can't eat it. Good Luck!
Hi, new girl here (and new to fitness blogging too!) I think you are making a great choice. I've noticed that I don't really crave sugar since I stopped eating it. Sure fresh baked cookies still smell good, but they don't taste as good as it feels knowing that I'm making good choices for my body.
So glad I found your blog. It's nice to know that I can get on my computer and find inspiration and support from other bloggers.
Sugar is addictive! No doubt. I have a recording of a class I gave on sugar cravings awhile back. If you are interested, I'd be happy to send you the mp3 free of charge. michelle@findyourbalancehealth.com
Sending warm, sugar-free wishes your way!
I needed 2 cups of hot chocolate last night to fall asleep.
Let me finish these three jumbo Pixie Stix and I'm in...
That's a great challenge, Jenn!!!
No CHOCOLATE?! I die. Or someone in my house does. It's a lose-lose sitch. LOL!!
I will root for you like crazy on this one! I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!
My impulse is to say yes and join you in your sugar-free challenge - and then I think about all the things I eat regularly that have some sugar in them and I hesitate - a little ketchup on my veggie burger and then there are those 100 calorie Vita Tops, and ... I will refrain from continuing.
Well, what the heck - I'll join you and stay away from sugar until Thanksgiving! Good luck to us both.
I'm in, but my challenge is mostly about candies and cakes and Nutella and the things where the sugar makes me lose control, not a little bit of ketchup on a veggie burger! No sweets til Thanksgiving!
Good luck with the challenge!
Good luck!
I will say that since I pretty much cut added sugar out of my life (I still use products w/sugar in them but keep away from things with crazy high levels) that the sweet cravings have really reduced.
Unfortunately I like salty stuff just as much. ;)
Best of luck!!
Lynn
Good luck! I went from eating three or four candy bars a day to no sweets. There is a detox period where you may get a little antsy or cranky.. but it's TOTALLY worth it. I haven't sworn off sweets forever - every once in a while I will have a Skinny Cow or Weight Watcher frozen dessert - and boy do I savor them. I had a hard time giving up fruit juices (luckily I had kicked the soda habit a few years ago). I drink a lot more water now - which is great for my body. You can beat the sweets and you will feel better for it!
Just letting you know I started already. No Ovaltine for me when I get home to go to bed. Sleepytime tea is just as good. :-)
I actually find that coffee itself gives me cravings... You may want to go without it for a while and see for yourself.
No sweets--not even artificial until Thanksgiving? Sounds like a plan. I'm new to your blog, but I'm in! Uh-hmm, just so you know the sacrifice here--sugar is my favorite food group! But I need a boost to get further down my Highway to Thin. Maybe this will do it! Thanks for bringing it up. :) Deb
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Jenn. I know I will, without the pumpkin pie. I am going to pig out on roasted veggies this afternoon and skip the desserts.
I did cave, though, and the sugar demons beat me. But I still come out the winner since I lost almost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Be good but enjoy!
Hello, Jenn.
I, too, am blogging about my journey to a new me. My blog site is: http://home.comcast.net/~meeshaluce/site/ and I would welcome a visit from you. I like your site, it is very interesting. I am not much of a sugar or sweets craver. My problem is eating the wrong food, or fast food. Thanks for the tips on your site. Keep going girl! You can do it.
Hope to see you at my site..... Michelle
When I get a really bad sugar craving, I usually just have a taste of whatever it is. The problem is, if I don't get a taste of that sugar or whatever, I'll eat something else and keep eating and eating... If I want a snickers, I'll have ONE mini-snickers just to have a taste and get rid of the "want". That helps me a lot.
